FILL CAR BOOT SALE‘GAP’

The Greyhound Stadium is launching a giant car boot sale on the Bank Holiday weekend. It will open on Sunday May 2nd 2010 to fill the gap left by the closure of the sales on the Wirrina site in Bishop’s Road, and then carry on every Sunday throughout the year apart from a couple of weeks around Xmas – being run by Norman and Gill Willerton, who operated the Wirrina sales.

Organiser Kevin Crighton said: “The sales at the Wirrina had to be stopped after complaints about cars being parked on surrounding streets. We will not cause that sort of problem for our neighbours.

“There will room on site for more than 200 free car parking spaces in addition to the 125 sales pitches. These will be priced from £6 for a car upwards, depending on the area the sellers take up. For bookings, ring me on 0773-052-3235.”

Admission to the selling area for the general public will be 30p a head. Children under 10 years of age will be admitted free of charge providing they are with a responsible adult.

People taking a trading pitch at the car boot sale will be admitted to the pitches at 08.00 am to give them time to set out their goods before the public is admitted at 08.45 am. Kevin Crighton said: “We will be strict about giving traders a clear hour to get ready. I have heard complaints from traders at other car boot sales that they cannot set out their goods properly because the public is admitted the same time as they are. One told me that potential customers have climbed over him as he tried to unload goods  from his car.

“Our car boot sale will be organised to provide benefit everyone. Traders will have time to set up, and we have plenty of free parking, so there will be no need for the public to park on streets in the area. We will also arrange the parking so that people can leave whenever they like and stewards will be on hand to keep exit lanes open.”

The car boot sale will start to close at 2pm, and the last of the traders and members of the public are expected to have left by 3pm.

And Kevin added: “We are all very excited about this. A big gap was left by the closure of the Wirrina car boot sales, and now we will fill that gap without the associated problems. Norman and Gill became very popular with everyone at the Wirrina, and we are delighted we can involve them in the new venture.”
